In its inception, the geometric abstraction found a fertile ground in Russia, where radical artists like Kazimir Malevich started in 1915 a series of black shapes on white backgrounds. New ideas were added to the concept by brilliant artists (Piet Mondrian, Joseph Albers, Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Stella, Larry Bell, George Braque, Paul Klee) and new art movements were born (Suprematism, Constructivism, De Stijl, Op Art, Hard Edge Abstraction, Minimalism, etc.) during a century-long existence. Their influence reached younger generations of contemporary artists who are still showing fascination for the purity of geometry and color.
