Still Life or Nature Morte, a picture consisting predominantly of inanimate objects, has been present in the art history as early as the 15th century BCE, during Egyptians dynasties. It has been present in the art since then. Manet once said that this is the corner stone of painting! Ancient Greek and Romans used this genre in particular in mosaic and frescoes, later on during the middle age, the genre was present in illuminated religious manuscript which were adorned with some elaborate decorative patterns such as coins or seashells.

During the northern renaissance, dutch masters popularized still life with elaborate flower paintings. Dutch Golden artists took a still life genre a step further, with their “Vanitas” painting, depicting skulls with cut flowers and other items, inspired by “memento mori” translates from Latin “remember that we have to die”. In modern art movement, still life remained a popular theme, impressionist artist like Renoir, post impressionist Vincent Van Gogh, Cézanne, Cubist masters Picasso, Braque and even Pop artist, Roy Lichtenstein, favored this thematic. Recently hyperrealistic artist have found in this long lived style an interest to turn inanimate everyday object into masterpieces .
