Due to a car accident, Zhang Kaini met with a spinal cord injury that led her to become a mouth-painting artist with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Worldwide (MFPA). She focuses on impressionist paintings using watercolour, oil and acrylic mediums.

This piece is an abstract interpretation of the spring festivities that come with Chinese New Year. It uses traditional elements of the festival, like the lantern, mandarin oranges and fan, placed against a colourful backdrop to create a joyous atmosphere.

This piece is a magical depiction of a quiet creek, with the colourful hues of the evening flow reflecting on the surface of the still waters. Trees line the creek bed, their branches poking through and sheltering the water surface.

Against the muted background which is painted in a blur of colour, the bright red strawberries are drawn with well-defined lines, creating a sharp image that brings attention to them. Geometric shapes cut through the blur of the backdrop, once again playing with contrast to bring an interesting piece.

This painting is a serene depiction of sunflowers, with a dreamy background that emphasises the vibrancy of the flowers. The contrast between the warm colours of the sunflower and the cool blue tones of the background create a sense of balance and harmony in the painting. Just as sunflowers grow towards the direction of sunlight, we are reminded to stand tall and find hope in the face of adversity or sickness. This painting serves as motivation for us to heal ourselves and one another, for there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.

‘Springtime’ showcases a luscious green field of grass, lined with a multitude of Cherry Blossom trees. The vivid pink flowers stand out against the dull green backdrop, and several lone petals float around the trees, dotting the landscape with spots of colour.

Sakura

This painting features a cluster of Cherry Blossom trees, dotted with white and pink flowers. Delicate flower petals float in the wind and land on a luscious green bed of grass. The entire piece is painted with cool tones, creating a unique atmosphere of spring.
