I consciously turn to a naive interpretation of archaic images, which are becoming a refuge from aggressive environment. I intertwine them with explorations of the social and mental, creating my work in a loose space between simplicity and wit.

All the subjects of the paintings in this series are different, animals, chickens and of course villagers appear here. But Elena consciously does not want to talk in detail about each picture, in the hope that the viewer, who has spent at least a little time in the village will have a memory and its own story on the subject of the picture.

Elena's love of rural motifs is often evident in her paintings.  Many villages are full of legends. Sometimes city dwellers are interested in the archetypes of the villagers, the drunkard debauchee, the man with the golden hands, the granny hoarder. Lena spent her entire childhood in the village of Ishlya, a colourful settlement with its entertainment, leisure activities, traditions, myths and scares. Through painting, the artist captures the memories of her childhood impressions of her native village.

Lena creates her paintings not so much from external features as from her own feelings, from the perception of a particular person or character that inspired her.

Each portrait is a riot of colour and energy. Behind the deliberate conventionality, sometimes even decorative nature of the writing, the viewer can discern an original interpretation of familiar images, a delicate structure of intertwined symbols and an amazing, intuitively appealing sense of colour.

Lilith left Paradise on her own, no one kicked her out and she didn't raise a brother-killer. Now she enjoys the popcorn from the apples of paradise in her status as that demoness, watching a film about the expulsion of those who decided that equality was unacceptable.

Lilith. A series of four episodes:   Personal Frontiers. Rage. Retaliation. Vulnerability.  The heroine of the pictures is Lilith, a rather ambiguous character. It is difficult to call her righteous or kind, but it is also impossible to call her unjust, much less take away her demonic status. She is a player who plays her dangerous tricks on humans, causing confusion and distorting the rules, taking humans to extremes and seeing them suffer (ironically, created by humans themselves). Winning over Lilith is both difficult and easy, all one has to do is acknowledge one's dark side.  One should not become a follower of Lilith, she is not the goal, but a means to muster the courage to look into her as a mirror.

Where else can you meet a Leopard and a Donkey playing chess with only one figure? They have their own rules, their own story, their own jokes. Maybe to be happy you just need to find a good friend and play a game with him/her according to new rules. And it doesn't matter who wins, the main thing is to enjoy the process, and then you'll be happy with every little thing in life.


We have all seen Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Lena, like many other people, lacks miracles in life and then paints them in her pictures.

Lena has become something of a bridge of friendship and love between two naturally warring predators and herbivores. With this act, she did not solve global problems, but it warms the soul that the artist was able to create love in a small triangle: human+cat+parrot.

Life is made up of little things, behind the big things there are always little things. A man often makes global plans for his future, which are not insured and can collapse overnight, and then the small, quiet moments that he created out of love, without pursuing gain, can be a support for him.

This time he/they have the image of a positive hero inviting in Boogie Wonderland. What could possibly be wrong with that? A lone shepherd like a snake charmer sings on his flute luring people's hearts into the unbridled exhilaration of Boogie Land. And it's here that the keen traveller becomes that Two-Faced Janus, for even in the abundant world of goodness, love and dancing there will be a seductive fly in the ointment.

Once again the appearances of Two-Faced Janus in the guise of chickens on my canvas.
