Using contemporary art practices Kerry Inkster has a particular interest in observing the female image and the social implications that these images represent.  Strong beautiful resilient women can be seen in her current body of work - standing in, emerging from, or swimming through, water.

Here you will see a vibrant and expressive acrylic painting featuring a woman with an ethereal and surreal quality.  My style is a blend of abstract and pop art, characterised by bold, contrasting colours including reds, blues, aquas, emeralds, and whites.  What is not obvious at first is that my model is underwater.  She is depicted with long flowing hair that merges with the abstracted background, creating a sense of movement and fluidity.    There are also flowers interspersed throughout, enhancing the whimsical and dreamlike feel of the piece.  Overall, in the underwater world, the image conveys feelings of freedom and fascination.  Named after a line in John Keats's poem "Ode to Psyche".

The painting is un-stretched and will come to you in a roll.  The measurements of the canvas itself include a minimum of a full extra 8 cm all around to cater for a painted edge once stretched.  The canvas itself measures 210cm W x 150cm H.

My portrait of Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican artist, is a vibrant expression of passion and strength, in a colourful and semi-abstract style. Frida is depicted with her signature hair style, wearing a large floral crown on her head. Her face is painted in vibrant colours, showcasing her unique artistic style. The background is filled with various flowers and greenery, giving the overall piece a lively and artistic feel. I harnessed acrylics and spray paint to channel a figure of profound emotional depth. My brushstrokes celebrate resilience and individuality, just like Frida herself, and my palette bursts with life. “Warm summer sun, Shine” refers to the beautiful light as it streams through the water as my model swims into the light.  Named after a line in the poem "Warm summer sun" by Mark Twain. Inspired by a photo captured underwater whilst on a photo shoot in Bitter Springs, Mataranka, Northern Territory - I wanted to capture the length, stretch and joy of my model as she reaches into the light.  Bright and contrasting colours of the season - orange and blue, purple and yellow - give a fresh vibrancy that would be perfect for the beach house or the pool pavilion - or just because you love those summer feels. A bright and "popped" interpretation of my uplifting photograph.
I have used a contemporary approach using techniques such as expressionism and pop art to capture my model in contrasting colours to give a sense of movement and energy.

Kerry seeks uplifting images and motifs to capture inspiration in her art, and when she came across this image she was taken by the uplifting sense of rising to the surface - reminiscent of a phoenix rising. With the models hair and dress flowing behind her, she rises to the surface from her underwater world, lifting her head and looking skyward into the light. The bold reds and contrasting teal and blue colours gives a sense that this woman rises to meet her challenges with energy and passion. An uplifting message for any person breaking free of others expectations and constraints.

Kerry has used a contemporary approach using techniques such as expressionism and pop art to capture her model in contrasting colours of red, teal and blue. 

Painted onto un-stretched canvas, the face of the painting measures 179.5 cm x 118, and Kerry has allowed a minimum of a further 8 cm all around the painting to allow for stretching by your preferred professional framer.

“Had I the Heavens” is named after the first line in W. B. Yeats Poem “Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven” where Yeats explores the idea of wanting to give gifts to someone you love, but having only the greatest gift of all, your dreams, to give. This is how I feel looking at this painting of my beautiful daughter who is my model - I want to give her the world!!  I loved how the light captured the small particles floating up through the water into the light and her carefree and open pose. Bright and contrasting colours of the season - orange and blue, purple and yellow - with a backdrop of grey - to give that fresh vibrancy that would be perfect for the beach house or the pool pavilion.

In creating this piece, I aimed to capture the vibrant essence of confidence and poise. With expressive acrylics and impactful sprays, I fused expressionism's intensity with pop art vibrancy, while dancing on the edges of semi-abstraction. This artwork, a symphony of bold colours and an evocative figure, invites a dynamic energy into any space, encouraging viewers to embrace their own strength and elegance. “Just as cool as you please” refers to a line in the poem “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou. The poem illustrates just how stunning and alluring confidence is. Angelou writes that she is not “cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size,” but she keeps her head high and her stride strong because she knows she is a phenomenal woman. This is my hope and desire for every single woman I know - including the model that inspires this painting.

I have named it after a line in the poem "When she dances" by Jennifer Highland. I'm always looking for positive motives to uplift and enrich women's and girls' lives - encouraging them to live braver and more fulfilled lives with strong bold poses.
