People, places are recurring themes, then nature, nudes and more. I work with acrylic colours on paper. Over time I’ve gone from representational to bold expression. I seek movement, expressive brushwork, a composition balanced onto itself. That’s when it’s complete and that’s the message I share.

This is a scene that is oh so Bangkok… an oasis of devotional peace in the middle of of the hustle and bustle of the city.
In this small size the illustrative approach works well, here using strong B6 pencil lines.

Pen and acrylic ink on Thai handmade mulberry paper (kada sa),  8.5 x 11.5 in., 21x 29 cm.
Singapore evolves so fast I had to confirm that this scene on Campbell lane is indeed still there …. And yes it is,  facing a new plaza ‘The Little India Arcade’.
This is painted on a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It is a thick parchment paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. Back then I liked to use airbrush overlays to get this effect. Small projects in A4 size are great to work out ideas, and just as a way of keeping in touch with colour and paper. Here I am using a loose approach to applying the colour, more expressive. The simpler result can be quite refreshing. 
I kept the lines fluid and the colours simple, the challenge is to put movement into the painting with colour and ‘splash’. This design is taken randomly from my pile of pencil & graphite sketches & exercises. I finally get around to reworking the wonderful sketch and expanding the idea.

Nude

acrylic colour on on unbleached rice paper, 8 x 11 in,  21 x 27.5cm
Small projects in A4 size are great to work out ideas, and just as a way of keeping in touch with colour and paper. The simpler result can be quite refreshing. Here I use unbleached rice paper which is a soft parchment paper. It absorbs like tissue paper and I have to work with this in a unique way. It also produces a unique result.

Nudes

I’ve been thinking of paintings about water again. The angel fish are really just an innocent bystander in my scheme of things. This is about blue, and bubbles… painted on a raw paper which absorbs like blotter.
