Farid Achezegag is an award-winning sculptor based in France whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Belgium and Cyprus. His art explores the human condition made up of several identities that overlap and often collide, which he represents through the puzzle. In addition, Achezegag utilizes the forms of breastplates to symbolize fragility and weakness. He primarily employs steel in the creation of his compositions but also stones or bones.

ACHEZEGAG

With this work, Achezegag is once again on the theme of balance, lightness and also fragility, which may seem surprising with the use of steel and pebble. And yet, the artist manages to give movement to his character. We find the theme of the circus which can be considered as an allegory of our human condition.

Here Achezegag was freely inspired by Giacometti's "walking man" and that of Rodin. The sculptor thus wanted to give his own representation of it so yes the man walks, with a voluntary step, asserted and at the same time by contrast, he no longer has arms and he is in the process of disintegrating. He seems caught in his tracks, determined, without realizing, without caring what is happening to him, to his body.

Metal

This sculpture is the result of a challenge launched by a friend to the sculptor: to introduce a sheep's skull to one of his sculptures. This project took a long time in Achezegag and then one day the evidence was to invert the skull of the sheep and make it the abdomen of an individual. From then on, this body comes to life, its shoulders, its back .... And then, a few sheets added, to symbolize the toil, the task, the effort, the work, a theme often present in his works. 

This work started from the stone found by the sculptor in his garden. This unique, extraordinary stone, full of secrecy and mystery is embraced by the character who protects it. And at the same time, this protection seems particularly precarious since the character himself finds himself balanced on an unstable, mobile tangle of sheets.

Achezegag produced this piece several years ago. The idea of this sculpture was to pay homage to childhood, a certain nostalgia for this lost lightness, gone.
Here, the adult character tries to find this lightness through the kite but here this balance, this quest seems precarious, fragile.

This person, this silhouette on this frail, abandoned, isolated, lonely boat is Achezegag's homage to migrants who risk their lives crossing seas in the hope of reaching their El Dorado.
The choice by Achezegag of origami, here in steel, demonstrates the fragility of their project, its uncertain success.
Finally, beyond the dramatic situation of migrants, this sculpture can be understood as a representation of many life paths.

Achezegag, in this work, plays on the contrast of the clean and clear line of the origami plane with the movement of the character who wins.
The character here seems weakened and light, unlike the plane which seems more stable and solid.
Escape gives an allegorical dimension of the departure, of the journey. The artist seeks here to symbolize lightness, joy but also fragility.

This sculpture is Achezegag's contemporary homage to Greek mythology. Fascinated by it, it is here for the sculptor to propose his own representation of the centaur, to which he adds a nod to the superheroes of his childhood by his strength, his musculature and his enthusiasm.

Mythology

Fascinated by mythology, Achezegag realized here his vision of the minotaur. He used his technique of assembling pieces of steel shaped one after the other in order to trap the pebbles that constitute certain parts of the body (buttocks, abdomen). These are intentionally exaggerated, disproportionate making to some extent a caricature of this fabulous monster.

Fascinated, as much as intrigued by chickens, Achezegag could not fail to offer his own interpretation of this gallinaceous. The hen has indeed inspired prestigious sculptors, including César. Achezegag thus winks at an artist he particularly likes. He made it with pieces of steel, a half sphere and a roller
